Time for a Mega Update!

If you haven't visited our Facebook page yet (www.facebook.com/ALittleImaginationCakes) then you haven't seen a lot of the new cakes we've been posting. Check in weekly to see what we've been up to!

Here are a few highlights from the last few months! To make it fair - let's go in alphabetical order shall we?

1. Anthropologie: A Birthday cake based on an Anthopologie Rug that the client loved.

2. Apple Blossom Wedding Cake: This cake was inspired by our original pink apple blossom wedding cake (seen here) but was made for a intimate wedding of only 50 people. Who says tiny can't be fabulous!

3. Bridal Shower: A delicate ivory cake with gumpaste lace, flowers and ribbon to match the bride's wedding dress and bouquet.

4. Broadway: A NY themed sweet 16 party was made complete by this 3 tier marquee covered cake.

5. Carrie Draghi Photography studio's: My Good friend Carrie Draghi (www.cdraghiphoto.com) asked me to make her a cake to display in her studio that matched her logo colors and decor.

6. Cattail Wedding: Cattail grasses, dragonflies, flowers and stones adorned this 4 tier cake made for a backyard wedding.

7. Corpse Bride Wedding: A fall wedding with a twist! This wedding cake was created for a couple who adore Tim Burton and all his work. 2 tiers adored with the Corpse bride and groom grow out of 2 stacked bottom tiers.

8. Cowboy triple birthday: Made for a Father and his 2 sons having a joint Cowboy themed birthday party.

9. Cupcakes: Who wouldn't love a dozen gourmet cupcakes just because?

10. Curious George: Curious George sits atop a gigantic Banana in this graduation cake made for a huge fan.

11. Day of the Dead: 3 topsy turvy tiers adorned with traditional Dia De Los Muertos Skulls decorated with piped royal icing.

12. Doggie Birthday: This puppy Looks too good to be eaten! Buttercream piped fur covers this pup in Chocolate brown, tan and white.

13. Ells Bust: Made to look like the founder of one of Wesleyan's oldest societies Samuel Ells was created for the founders 100th birthday.

14. Elmo: We make a lot of Elmo cakes here at the shop. Here are 2 versions of that furry monster.

15. Fireworks wedding: A topsy turvy 4th of July wedding cake covered in Fireworks and twinkling stars.

16. Furby: A Child birthday cake made to look like his favorite toy.

17. Horse's Head: What Mafia themed 50th birthday party would be complete without a horse's head for the guest of honor.

18. Hula Party: The CT Ballroom Society (www.ctballroomsociety.com) had a hula themed gala this year and asked us to make them a cake. Grass skirts and Tiki heads and flower necklaces Oh My!

19. Indian 80th Birthday: A traditional Indian helmet tops this 2 tier cake covered with Mehndi and the gumpaste figures of the recipients grandchildren.

20. Jungle Twins: A Baby shower cake for a mom expecting Twins!

21. Miami Dolphins Helmet: A Surprise grooms cake for a huge Dolphins fan!

22. Mickey Mouse: This 3-D Mickey Mouse was made for the 3rd birthday of a special needs child with Leg Braces. Our Mickey was made with matching braces.

23. A Mid Summer Night's Dream: This cake was made for Capitol Classics (www.capitalclassics.org) production of A Mid Summer Night's Dream.

24. Movie night: A fun girlie movie night themed cake for a 13 year old's birthday that made her the star of the show!

25. Mr. Potato Head (Darth Tater): A Star Wars themed Mr. Potato Head with all of his regular parts scattered on the table.

26. Nemo: What kid doesn't love Finding Nemo? This 3-D cake fed 20 guests.

27. NY Giants Helmet: Another Football groom's cake, this one was for a huge Giants fan.

28. NY Yankees: A small surprise stadium cake with the Yankee's Logo right on top.

29. Pink Frilly Purse: A 1st birthday cake filled with glitter and glam. this frilly cake fed 15 guest and was made to match the birthday girls dress.

30. Princess Cakes: We also make quite a few princess cakes at the Shop. Here are 2 versions of a classic princess cake.

31: Purple Wedding: This outdoor wedding cake brought together delicate flowers, pearls and birds with natural looking branches.

32. Queen of Hearts Cake: A Topsy Turvy 30th Birthday cake made to match the shoes of the lucky birthday girl.

33. Skeleton Bride and Groom: Just in time for Halloween, this engagement party cake represented the lucky couple in a fun new way!

34. Sponge Bob Squarepants: Along with his sidekick Gary, this gravity defying Spongebob would make any child’s birthday complete!

35. Statue of Liberty: This Lady of Liberty serves 20 and was made from gumpaste.

36. Stenciled Wedding: A hand painted Wedding cake with fresh flowers.

37: Strawberry Shortcake: This Princess version of Strawberry Shortcake stood 3 ft tall and was filled with Strawberries and Cream cake.

38. Submarine: A surprise Fast Attack class submarine cake complete with royal icing waves for a newly promoted officer.

39. Train cakes: we have done both traditional train cakes and A colorful Thomas the Train cake this summer.

40. Toy Story: A gumpaste Woody tops this 2 tier toy story cake complete with lasso and bandana.

41. Tutu: A girlie pink tutu for a little girl's 1st birthday. With Ruffles, flowers and bow's what little girl wouldn’t want a tutu all her own.

42. Vlasic Pickle Jar: Made for a little girl who's nickname was Pickle, this Jar cake came with it's own giant marshmallow gherkin.

43. Wadsworth Mansion: This sophisticated black and white cake was the centerpiece at the Wadsworth Mansion's photo shoot.

44. White Flowers: A classically beautiful birthday cake for one of A Little Imaginations Biggest fans

45. Winnie the Pooh: Pooh attracts the sugar honey bees With a giant Pink hunny pot on this 1st birthday cake.

46. Wonka: Violet Beauregard stars as the blueberry girl in this cake for a Willy Wonka themed birthday party.

A Little Imagination Cakes is looking for Interns!

A Little Imagination Cakes is looking for internship students with basic baking/culinary or design knowledge.

We are currently accepting inquires for Fall and Winter internships at our bakery in Middletown, CT.

Students will work closely with Head Chef Hope Wright-Martell to complete party and wedding orders for cakes and cupcakes.

Day to day tasks include, but are not limited to...

1. Designing cakes based on client input for themes, colors, etc.
2. Baking, carving, crumb coating and final frosting of buttercream cakes and cupcakes
3. Applying fondant layers, as well as, creating fondant or gumpaste decorations
4. Basic kitchen prep and clean up

The bakery is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
Flexible scheduling is available Thursdays - Sundays.

Minimum weekly commitment - 2 days
Maximum weekly commitment - 4 days

White apple blossoms:
4 tiers with White fondant, Ivory satin ribbon and pink apple blossoms. Serves 125

Blue and white modern dots:

4 tiers with White fondant, Black satin ribbon, white fondant decorations and Blue airbrushed spots and stripes. Serves 125

Ivory Hydrangeas and peonies:
3 tierd cake covered with vanilla buttercream. Feeds 100

Dogwood flowers

4 tiers with White fondant, airbrushed green with gumpaste dogwood flowers and embellishments. Serves 125

Black and White Henna:
3 tiers of Marshmallow fondant airbrushed black with White royal icing piped on by hand in an henna inspired design. Serves 100

Cars Tomater and Lightning McQueen:

Made for a little boys birthday party, both of these cakes were sculpted from Devils food cake with vanilla buttercream covered in marshmallow fondant and airbrushed. Feeds 30

Middletown Kenpo Karate School retirement cake:

The two head instructors of a local Karate school decided to pass the torch on to the next generation of instructors, and this cake was made for the event.

Each gi was made to look like the ones worn by these specific instructors, including the patches and belts. Devil’s food cake with dark chocolate ganache. Feeds 50

Green flower birthday:

A birthday cake with a modern floral design.

Baby Shoes:

A Baby shower cake made for someone expecting a little boy. The cakes color scheme was made to match the theme of the little boy’s new room.

Shoes, pacifier, and blanket were modeled from gumpaste.

Red Velvet with Chocolate buttercream and marshmallow fondant. Feeds 30+

Elmo:

A little boy’s Elmo themed 2^nd birthday party would not be complete without an18” tall Elmo and Dorothy Cake.

Elmo was made with marble cake and vanilla buttercream piped to look like Elmo’s fur, Dorothy and her fishbowl was decorated in gumpaste. Feeds 40+

Skiing Penguins:

Made for a charity auction with a winter wonderland theme. The penguins are made from gumpaste, and the other decorations are made from Marshmallow fondant.

Devils’ food cake with chocolate ganache, this cake fed 10-12 people.

Wedding - Brain - Fiesta

Ky and Amanda’s Wedding:

Made for a good friends wedding, this cake was designed by the groom, and included funfetti, cherry chip, and carrot cake layers.

The little boy figure was molded out of gumpaste to match the bride and groom figures.

Brain:

A fun, spur of the moment “just because” cake made for a brainy girlfriend. This Devils food cake with chocolate ganache was made to feed a couple with generous leftovers.

The lobes and convolutions were made from marshmallow fondant.

Cinco de Mayo:

Made for a 30^th birthday party on Cinco de Mayo, this three tiered devils food cake with white chocolate mousse, feeds 40 people.

Decorations were modeled from both fondant and gumpaste.

Australia - Art Deco - Baby Car

Australia:

A birthday cake made for a college student that had just spent a semester abroad in Australia.

The kangaroo and koala were made from gumpaste and added once they had dried.

Art Deco Mother’s Day:

A modern Art Deco 4 layer cake made for a Mother’s day dinner.

Made to feed 15, this Devil’s food cake was completed with white chocolate mousse, fresh raspberries and marshmallow fondant.

Baby shower car:

A Baby shower cake for someone expecting a little boy.

This red velvet cake with vanilla buttercream was carved to look like a child’s toy compete with antenna.

Medal - Savate - Cat's Meow

Eagle Scout Medal:

A large cake for a special Eagle Scout ceremony, the bottom cake measured 18” square and fed 120 people.

The base cake as well as the Eagle and ribbon were made from marble cake covered with vanilla butter cream and marshmallow fondant. The eagle was hand painted using edible silver powder.

Savate Silhouette:

Savate is a form of French kickboxing practiced around the world. This cake was made for a Gala (competition) in Montreal for a fighter who was retiring.

This devil’s food cake with Chocolate ganache and raspberry buttercream, all covered in marshmallow fondant fed approx 40 people

The Cat’s Meow:

The St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital hosted a charity auction to raise money for children’s cancer research and asked me to participate.

The event was a 20’s themed soirée, so I created a themed cake complete with cloche hat, pearls, a cigarette holder and white gloves all made from fondant.

Car - Harley - Birthday

Stock car:

Made for a gentleman who races stockcars, this cake was decorated using pictures of his car.

Sponsor stickers made of fondant and decorated with edible markers. Devil’s food cake with peanut butter ganache, feeds 10.

Harley Eagle Anniversary:

This wedding anniversary cake was made for a couple who love Harley motercycles.

Commissioned by their son, this cake featured the Harley Eagle with a modified Harley logo in it’s talons all perched on a mountain top.

Green 40^th Birthday

Made for a gentleman’s 40^th birthday, this cake has an abstract circuit board design with faux-airbrushed layers. Devils food cake with Peanut butter ganache, this cake will feed 50.

Max & Ruby

This cake was spring themed with the Max & Ruby characters for a 2 year old's birthday. the 2 layer cake featured Max and Ruby's house which was created out of rice krispies covered with marshmallow fondant.

Max and Ruby were made from a combination of fondant and gumpaste and then hand painted.

Middlesex Chamber Auction Cake

I made this cake for the Middlesex Chamber of Commerce Auction that was held in Middletown tonight. I wasn't given a theme for this cake, they just asked me to make something small-ish and this is what I came up with.

This was a 6 inch, 2 tier cake with a 1 inch pillar between the 2 layers with a modern tulip design.

The cake is made of Devil's food cake with dark chocolate ganache. The bottom layer is covered with a dark chocolate fondant, and the top 3 layers are covered with vanilla marshmallow fondant.

Tiffany & Co Birthday

This Tiffany & Co. themed cake was made for a 25th birthday party being held at one of out local casinos. The Tiffany's shopping bag was made from 5 layers of marble cake with vanilla buttercream and marshmallow fondant.

The Tiffany's bracelet was painted with edible silver dust and "engraved" with the "Please Return to Tiffany & Co." inscription found on these bracelets.

Tinkerbell and her friends

This cake was made for a very special girl for her 10th birthday. Meant to feed 15 to 20 people, the bottom portion of the cake was airbrushed, and leaf and vine details were added to complete the woodsy look.

The toadstool and each of the fairies were made from a combination of fondant and gumpaste and then allowed to dry overnight before being added to the cake.

O'Rourkes Diner

If you live in the Middletown area, you probably know about O'Rourkes Diner. This Middletown icon had been on Main St for decades and serves (in my humble opinion) some of the best food around. Along with all the other things this diner does for the community, It is also the place where I get to bake and decorate my cakes.

This cake was made for the 1 year anniversary of the diner's re-opening after a tragic fire nearly destroyed the historic building.

The Diner cake was covered in Marshmallow fondant painted with edible silver dust. I also created sugar glass blocks and windows.

Brian O'Rourke, the Diner's owner was created out of gumpaste, complete with chef's pants, an O'Rourkes t-shirt and his ever present knife.

This cake is a smaller version of the 21st birthday cake I made here. This small cake was made to feed 6-8 people at a birthday celebration.

Both the box and lid are made from Devil's food cake with chocolate ganache, decorated with fondant. The shoes were made from gumpaste and then coated with edible silver powder.

Time to play some catch-up.

I was going through some of my photos and realized that I had such a hectic holiday season I didn't have a chance to post some great cakes. So, over the next couple days I will be posting a bunch of cakes that I neglected to mention. First up - The Ton of Toys cake.

The Ton of Toys event was sponsored by HYPE (Hartford Young Professionals & Entrepreneurs) and with the along with the Hartford Jaycees raised money and collected toys for the area's charitable organizations. I donated this cake for the event, made to feed about 200 people.

Each of the presents was made from devils food cake with chocolate ganache and covered with Marshmallow fondant that was then airbrushed and decorated.

Each of the toys was created out of solid fondant and was created the week before the event so they would have a chance to dry and harden for transport.

For a sense of scale, the cakeboard was just under 3 feet square, and the Teddy bear was jsut over 6" tall!

I love details.

This may seem like a silly way to open up a post, but when I received the email to make the following cake, I can't tell you how excited I was. the details are what make these cakes special, it's what sets them apart and makes them special for the person that they are made for. When I get an email from someone who knows exactly what they want, I tend to get a little excited! Ok, enough rambling, on the the fun stuff.

This cake was made for a little boy's 1st birthday with a truck theme.

Complete with Traffic cones, caution tape, and an adorable personality, this cake was all about the details, and came out great.

U2: The Joshua Tree

This past week was my brother-in-law Joe's birthday. He has asked me a few weeks ago if I would make him his cake, his only request being that it was U2 themed. after much searching, and a little inspiration from a friend, I came up with Joe's cake.

A classic album like the Joshua Tree seemed like the perfect fit for Joe. and he seemed to enjoy it quite a bit! Below in the auctual art from the Joshua Treee album for comparison.

A Celtics themed cake for a little boy who loves basketball. The base of the cake was airbrushed to look like a wooden gym floor with a round basketball cake and Fondant jersey completing the look.

Vanilla cake with Vanilla frosting, This cake was made to feed approx 10 - 12 people.

Wedding Cake!

I was given the opportunity to make my first wedding cake a few weeks ago. The Bride and Groom were amazing to work with, they had tons of ideas and together I think we designed the perfect cake for them.

The final product was a 3-tier, 9 layer cake with alternating layers of Vanilla and Devils food cake all covered in a dark chocolate ganache and finished with white marshmallow fondant and tiny fondant hearts.

Fresh roses, Ferns, Baby's Breath and satin ribbons at the base of each layer completed the look and incorporated the wedding colors. I had so much fun making this cake and was honored to be be a part of their special day.

Pink Pirate Party

Recently I was asked to design a cake for a young girl's "Pink Pirate Party". Since I have previously made both a treasure map and pirate's chest for pirate parties, we decided that this pirate party needed a pirate ship!

This cake consisted of an "ocean" base cake with waves rolling out from beneath the ship, and the pirate's ship sitting on top. Both the base and ship are made of vanilla cake with vanila buttercream and are covered in marshmellow fondant.

In order to make this a Pink pirate ship we added a pink Johnny Roger flying above the top mast.

Im Back!

Its been a little busy this summer here at casa de little imagination but I'm back and have some new cakes to post. Over the next few weeks I have a ton of cakes in the queue so I will be putting new ones up everyweek. Now on to the pictures!

The first cake I have for you is a cake for a little boy's birthday who loves John Deere tractors. I made this cake to feed about 20 kids and adults who would be attending the party. Chocolate cake, chocolate frosting and marshmellow fondat made this cake any kids dream.

The tractor was created out of fondant and gumpaste and allowed to dry before it was placed on the cake using additional gumpaste as support.

Next we have a Pretty Princess Cake for a very special birthday girl. 2 tiers of almond cake with chocolate mousse filling and marshmellow fondnat made up this pink creation.

This was the first cake that I got to use my new airbrush gun and it worked out really well. I was able to graduate the colors nicely from deep purple to a pale pink with ease and the colors dont run liek some coloring gell i've used.

The Crown and scepter were provided by the birthday girls mom to add a little something extra to top it all off.

Scooby Doo and the Mystery Machine

I loved Scooby Doo as a kid so when I was asked to make another Scooby cake I was thrilled.

Instead of making a castle like the last one – we decided to make the classic Mystery Machine to go along with Scooby and Shaggy. The famous van was made from 3 layers of vanilla cake with vanilla frosting – carved to shape and then covered in fondant.

Scooby and Shaggy were made 2 days ahead so they would have plenty of time to dry and set before the delivery. Both were made completely of fondant.

I hope that the Lucky 5 year old that received this as a Birthday cake was as happy with it as I was! Happy Birthday!

Green Dump Truck

So these seem to be quite popular lately. I made this truck for a 6 year old's birthday party - Vanilla cake, vanilla frosting and vanilla cookie crumbs to look like sand.

This time I went with a green truck with dark gray accents, and "sand" instead of the usual "dirt" Dad and the son both loved the cake.

As usual a member of my "cake currier team" accompanied me to deliver this cake - everything was going fine until we hit the highway and the skies opened up and the rain came POURING down. I haven't seen in rain this hard in YEARS... Many of you might not know this but fondant + water= disaster. When fondant gets wet it disintegrates into a slimy mess - colors run and it's pretty ugly.

As we arrive my client is standing outside holding and umbrella and I realize this is not going to go well at all - the second the rain hits the cake it's ruined.

A little quick thinking and 10 minutes later the cake is wrapped in a garbage bag (with the help of my associate in the car) and brought inside - I look like I jumped into a swimming pool fully clothed but the cake made it inside no worse for wear - Disaster averted :)

Lesson learned - even if it is sunny when you leave - always have something on hand to cover the cake in case of rain/hail/locusts - whatever :)

Model New Haven Train on bridge

So this weeks cake was a New Haven style stain crossing a river on a trestle. Easy right?!? It wasn't too bad actually. The trestle and the train cars had non-cake supports in them while the green grass and river were completely edible.

This cake was made for a surprise birthday party for a friends father who loves trains.

The cake was made to feed about 35 people and was 16" square - Vanilla cake with Vanilla frosting.

For this design I tried using a spray on color for the roling hills and I liked the way it came out - maybe its time to buy that airbrush kit...

High Heel Shoe Cake

So this was a very busy weekend - 3 cakes in 3 days!

This was the last cake of the weekend - A pair of stilettos in a shoe box for a 21st birthday party.

The box was made of 3 layers of marble cake with vanilla custard filling and chocolate frosting. I don't usually post pictures of the "guts" of my cakes - but this just looked too good not to pass along!

The shoes themselves are also made from fondant that I let harden for 24 hours before adding them to the cake.

this cake was fun to make and surprisingly sturdy once all the elements were added.

So as it turns out suitcases are a popular theme this month.

This suitcase was made for a wedding rehearsal dinner for a lucky couple that will be traveling to Australia for their honeymoon.

Included on the suitcase are trademarks of Australia - Kangaroos, Koala, the Sydney opera house and boomerangs.

Made to feed 20-25 people this suitcase was made from a 4 laver carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.

Meg's Graduation Suitcase

This cake was for a good friend who graduated form college and is off to grad school in the fall.

Meg is on a journey and what better to accompany her than a chocolate suitcase cake - made from devils food cake with chocolate ganache filling and chocolate fondant this cake feed approx 25 people.

Meg has many interests and i wanted to include a bunch of them in her cake. She is my husbands Jiu Jitsu student, a Philosophy major, and avid coffee drinker, a baritone sax player and an all around cool chick.

This cake was created as a special birthday cake for a really nice woman. The base of the cake measured 18" square and was made to feed approx 50 people.

Wonder woman herself is also made from cake and and was a vanilla cake with vanilla custard filling.

Pink Cadillac

I created this cake for an adult’s birthday party.

The Boyfriend of the birthday girl sent me photos of a model pink Cadillac to work from and I tried to include as many details as possible.

Under all the pink and edible chrome this cake was made from marble cake with vanilla frosting and will feed about 10-15 people.

I made this cake for a coworker whose brother is getting married. Designed to feed about 70 people, this cake was made to match the napkins and plates for a Jack and Jill bridal party.

Because this was a large cake, I created and decorated each layer separately and then stacked them when I was finished decorating.

“Tonka” Dump Truck Cake

This truck was for the same little boy that received my tanker truck cake. This year the cake design was a surprise for both the parents and the little boy. I was lucky enough to be given creative license and make whatever I wanted as long as it was a vehicle of some sort.

The dump truck I created comes complete with a load of chocolate cookie crumb dirt (which was also spread over the cake tray) fondant presents and M&M’s. The wheels were made from chocolate cookies with fondant centers. All the small details on the truck are made of fondant and decorated with food coloring markers.

A vanilla cake with vanilla frosting, this cake was designed to feed 30 people.

Masquerade Sweet Sixteen

This weekend I delivered a sweet sixteen cake for a very large sweet sixteen party. The event had a masquerade theme with purple and silver accents.

For the cake I created a 9 layer topsy turvey Devils food cake with cookies and cream filling. Everything on the cake was edible with the exception of the feathers.

The mask was created using a real mask as a guide but was created out of fondant and edible glitter. Happy Sweet Sixteen!

Cake Tasting

Today I did my first tasting for a possible wedding cake client. I created 4 small 6" cakes for the lucky couple to try and see what they liked. I ended up making a devils food cake with dark chocolate ganache, a devils food cake with chocolate hazelnut ganache, a white chocolate cake with lemon curd filling and a vanilla cake with raspberry curd filling. I decorated each with off white fondant and a variety of fondant sunflowers.

One of the cakes ended up a bit lumpy, but in the end the couple seamed to like their choices and it was a really fun experience!

Stack of Books

I created this stack of books as a surprise birthday cake.

Each book was made from a lemon layer cake complete with Mango filling and mango buttercreme frosting under the fondant.

The cake was made to feed approx 20 people. As a surprise I wrote the names and authors of some of the birthday girls' favorite books.

"Football" cake

This cake was for a surprise 40th birthday party. The birthday boy was a British "football" player and we thought that this would be a great cake for him.

Both the ball and the field were made from spice cake covered in cream cheese frosting. I ended up covering the ball with 36 individual pieces of fondant cut to shape. This cake was a blast to make and from what I heard was enjoyed by all!

Scooby Doo

So this one is going to be a little picture heavy because of all the characters involved...

I was asked to make a Scooby Doo themed joint birthday cake for a 5 year old and his 10 year old cousin. The 5 year old apparently really likes Scooby Doo and had some very specific requests:

He asked for my castle cake with all the ghosts removed, and then add back in the following:
Scooby Doo and Shaggy looking frightened

with Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolfman standing in the castle doorway.

On the back of the cake they asked for Fred, Daphne and Velma to be playing basketball (the older cousin is a basketball fan apparently).

So there we are... A Scooby Doo themed birthday cake with tons of fun monsters! Enjoy!

Minnesota Vikings Birthday Cake

This cake was a surprise for a big Vikings fan.

Both the field and the helmet are made from Marble cake covered in Vanilla butter creme frosting. I ended up carving the helmet out of a spherical cake and then added all the details with fondant.

The face mask I made ahead and let dry for a couple hours before adding it to the helmet. this was it had a chance to harden and retain its shape one assembled.

Overall I think the cake came out great and from what I heard was a huge success!

Monkey Baby Shower cake

I created this cake for a baby shower this coming weekend.

The cake was made to coordinate with the invitations which had baby monkey's on them (along with some other baby animals).

I tried to give each of them a different expression to make them fun and cheeky. The monkeys are made form a combination of fondant and gumpaste and are completely edible.

This cake is 4 layers of Marble cake with chocolate frosting and made to feed 20 - 25 people comfortably.

Butterfly Birthday!

This birthday cake is for the niece of one of my coworkers. She is turning 4 and loves butterflies so I was asked to make a small butterfly cake for her party.

After sculpting the cake into the shape of a butterfly and covering it with white fondant I used piping gel and a opalescent powder to create the purple shapes on the wings and then hand pained the green and blue onto the cake.

My mom loves jigsaw puzzles so i decided to give her one for her birthday.

This is 2 layers of Devil's food cake with chocolate cream cheese frosting. Each piece is 3 inches tall, the cake is meant to feed our immediate family.

Busy, Busy, Busy!

Last night was a busy night! I had not one but TWO cakes to complete for parties tonight.

The first is a birthday cake for a very special 13 year old. She asked for a funky cake with bright colors and flowers and then left me to my own devices to come up with a design.

2 tiers of Vanilla cake with chocolate frosting. I cut the cake layers at an angle to crate the topsy-turvy uneven look of this cake (yes that was on purpose!)

I created the 3-D flowers a few days ahead of time so they would have plenty of time to dry so they would hold up during transport.

This cake was a ton of fun to make and I really hope she likes it!

The second cake was for my co-worker Michelle.

She and her mom are throwing a reception party for her brother who recently got married overseas.

She asked for a Valentine’s Day themed cake to feed about 40 people. This one is a marble cake with chocolate frosting

Sushi Birthday

My Good Friend Stace is having her Sushi themed 25th birthday party today, so of course I decided to surprise her with a sushi cake.

Chocolate devils food cake with vanilla frosting, made to feed about 15 people.

I made the Sushi Rolls, the Nigiri Sushi, the wasabe and pickled ginger all out of fondant and used gumpaste for the orchids (since it is easier to roll gumpaste really thin).

Who can resist a couple of frogs grinning at you from some floating lily pads...

Chocolate on Chocolate and made to feed 35 people, this cake is a frog lovers paradise.

I really had fun with this one and tried out some new techniques and a few tools I hadn't had a chance to use yet, in the end I think it came out really well.

I included a blue sky and clouds for the wonderpet's flyboat, as well as the boat itself, all made of cake.

The Wonderpets themselves were made from solid fondant.

Creative Juice Halloween Cake

The Middlesex Chamber of Commerce has a very fun committee named Creative Juice here in Middletown. This past Thursday they had their kickoff event at kidcity in Middletown, complete with food from some of Middletown's best restaurants (in my humble opinion) and tons of mingleing. I was asked if I would make a cake for the event and this is what happened!

He top and Bottom layer are devils food cake and the middle layer is vanilla all covered with a healthy smothering of creamcheese frosting. This cake fed 100+ people and there wasn't any left to take home! I decided to try something new with this one and had bats flying around the top of the cake on wires.

Ghost Castle

This weekend I made a birthday cake fir an 8 year old boy whose birthday theme was Halloween.

This one was a little challenging as it needed to be Halloween but not scary or creepy.

In the end a ghost castle won. Chocolate cake with vanilla frosting - 4 double layers tall (about 16 inches once finished.) made to feed about 20 or so guests.

Saxophone Birthday cake

Another birthday, another cake. This one is for our friend Meg, who among other things plays the baritone saxophone amazingly well.

This cake fed about 20 people and was a white cake with a homemade strawberry frosting and a strawberry and pineapple filling. The saxophone is made of solid fondant along with the music streaming out of it.

My coworker Michelle is getting married tomorrow (congrats!) So a few weeks back I offered to make her a poker themed grooms cake for her rehearsal dinner tonight as a surprise for her husband to be.

What we ended up with was a 16 inch 2 layer hexagonal carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.

The fondant poker chips and playing cards are hand painted with edible food coloring "paint"

This cake will feed a minimum of 20 people with large pieces but if you stretch it could feed 30 or more.

Horse Cake

This is a small cake with an 8x8 inch base made to feed approx 8 to 10 people. The stable as well as the base are made of marble cake with a whipped frosting.

The horses heads, mane and all the flowers are edible fondant. When I made the planks for the stable each one has lines carved in them to resemble wood grain. This was a quick cake for a last minute birthday party. and only took a couple hours to complete.

My Cakes can be made to look like just about anything. Here are some ideas to get you started:

Animal cakes: Turn your favorite animal into a cake, frogs on lily pads, penguins, a bee hive, a dog or cat, your pet turtle... the possibilities are endless!

Theme cakes: Having a themed party? Why not a cake to match? Tea party's with a tea pot shaped cake, dinosaurs (you could have a fossils or a t-rex), under the sea, or sports

Character cakes: Does your toddler Love Dora the Explorer, Clifford, Bob the Builder, or Blue’s Clues? Do they have a favorite book? If I can find a picture of the character, I can make the cake. Scroll down to see the Nemo and Dory Cake I created.

Vehicle cakes: Does someone love race cars,trains, fire trucks, army vehicles, boats, airplanes, or tractors? All be transformed into cakes.

First off: the cake that started it all! This Finding Nemo Cake was entered in a local cake decorating contest I entered on a whim to see how I would do. Everythig you can see is made of Fondant and Gumpaste and is completely edible! This cake is Huge! 12 inches High by 24 inches wide by 18 inches deep!
